Chief Editor: Tom Koontz. Send e-mail questions or comments to same. I read submissions each day, and when I find a poem that I want to publish, I add it, at the top of the year's scroll-down. And I provide a separate, print-friendly copy, listed in the Contents pages for that year and all years.
Barnwood's (i.e. Koontz's) editorial taste is eclectic, looking to current poets to show what can be done effectively in the art, and hoping to present a wide range of poetry. I'm looking for effective artistry from everywhere, and from practioners ranging from masters to never-before-published. Here are more editorial thoughts, including thoughts on artistry and thoughts on whether I'm actually qualified to do this kind of thing to people.
With Barnwood magazine, the members of The Barnwood Press Cooperative aim to provide a selection of new poems that readers will be happy to find on their screens. We try to pay enough (currently $25 / poem) for the right to publish a strong new poem, to make an appropriate gesture, at least, of appreciation, and of recognition that poets deserve to receive much more money than is usually offered to them. In turn, we hope that readers will join in that gesture, by occasionally making a tax-deductible contribution to "Barnwood," and/or buying a book.
Any copying of these poems or images in any format, in an attempt to gain financial profit, is prohibited, dishonorable, shameful, except with written permission from Tom Koontz. Fair use applies--including attribution of source (that's only fair). Personal, educational, and charitable reprintings are admirable and encouraged (also with credit to the original).
Please note that, while the parent organization, The Barnwood Press Cooperative, a not-for-profit corporation, and its publishing activities can be accessed through the web site of the Creative Writing Program at Ball State University, where the faculty use Barnwood as an instructional opportunity for their students, the Coop is not financially or legally associated with the University. (In the interests of full disclosure: the editor is a professor emeritus of BSU.)
Thanks. Enjoy.
